About the event

Join NCWF’s Lake Norman Wildlife Chapter and Island Adopters for a morning of native buttonbush planting and brown-headed nuthatch nest box installation on Lake Norman’s islands! The islands provide critical refuge for deer, fish, songbirds, raptors, and pollinators. Native buttonbushes help reduce erosion and stabilize island shorelines while providing habitat and food for waterfowl, pollinators, and other wildlife. Volunteers will help plant hundreds of buttonbushes and install brown-headed nuthatch nest boxes across several islands. We will meet at Skippers Landing to load plants and materials before taking a short boat ride to the islands. All boats and tools will be provided. Pizza and drinks will be provided at the end of the event. This work directly supports the Island Habitat Program, a conservation initiative that enhances island habitats through litter removal, nest box installation, native planting, and public education about wildlife habitat stewardship.

Jobs will include digging holes, staging plants, and putting plants in the ground. We will meet at Skipper's Landing. All boats and tools will be provided, but please bring water and gloves, and come dressed in layers. Waterproof boots that can get muddy are strongly recommended. Pizza and drinks will be provided to all volunteers at the end.
