Good morning, Mooresville.

Mooresville Fire-Rescue and Shepherds Fire Department responded to a report of heavy smoke at Republic Recycling off McKenzie Road at about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday — crews brought the blaze under control by 4:28 p.m. with no injuries as investigators examined the cause.

David Hoffmann, a Florida-based billionaire and Missouri native, will become chair of the Mooresville Tribune owner after a $35 million deal gave him a controlling stake in Lee Enterprises.

The change will bring new leadership to the local media group.

Mooresville marked 2025 with an $11 million Moor Park restoration (including a new grandstand) and transportation upgrades like the East West Connector that eased traffic.

The town also celebrated Freedom Hill, a project that provided 15 mortgage-free homes for veterans and first responders.
