The Salvation Army in Statesville will extend its 24-hour warming shelter until Sunday to help those braving polar temperatures; volunteers have served three meals daily to about 25 residents over the past four days, with community partners donating supplies (donations are still needed).

Cool Spring Elementary teachers have raised student engagement and academic gains through high expectations and a supportive (family-like) atmosphere.
