COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mayor Chris Carney and Dog Mayor Reya visited Pine Lake Preparatory, Coddle Creek Elementary and Park View Elementary schools today to celebrate Mooresville’s birthday and invite families to the 3rd Annual Mooresville Day Festival set for Saturday, March 22 from 12-4 p.m. Students asked questions and ate cupcakes—while Reya enjoyed many belly rubs—making the visits a warm invitation to the upcoming celebration.  Iredell Free News
  • Gov. Josh Stein set the tone at the 2025 N.C. Main Street Conference on March 11 at the Charles Mack Citizen Center by praising healthy Main Streets as key to local growth. Organizers and local officials said the event was flawless—awarding the $10 million update to Liberty Park and Ron Mack’s restoration of a 100-year-old building.  Mooresville Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Make An Impact Foundation now runs the Kids Work Internship Program 2025 for teens aged 16 to 18 in Mecklenburg and Iredell counties and is recruiting businesses to host interns as MAIF handles payroll and logistics. Jaime Lane manages the 160-hour program—applications open on March 31 and students will receive professional and soft skill training.  Mooresville Citizen
  • Mitchell Community College announced on Wednesday that David Bullins was named vice president for continuing education and workforce development to lead programs such as short-term business training, a small business center, career training, and basic skills classes. Bullins has over 20 years of public service experience including work as fire chief in Statesville and is expected to boost local workforce skills.  Iredell Free News
  • At its Tuesday meeting, the MGSD Board approved a new summer programs plan—covering enrichment, remediation retesting, career camps, and literacy initiatives with transportation and meals provided—for various student groups. The board also announced a $294,507 Safe Schools grant and recognized student and staff achievements, including awards and championship titles, to boost the district’s efforts.  Iredell Free News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The N.C. Department of Revenue announced that a new Transportation Commerce Tax will affect ride services provided by taxis and transportation network companies starting on July 1. Taxpayers must register and file returns and will collect 1.5 percent of gross receipts for exclusive rides and 1.0 percent for shared rides — rates set under Session Law 2023-134—.  Iredell Free News
