Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 26th of March.
Good morning, Mooresville.
🏘️ Community
Local agencies are teaming up during National Child Abuse Prevention Month this April to host Tie-A-Tree Blue events today in Statesville at 9 a.m., Troutman at 11 a.m., and Mooresville at 1 p.m., with further events tomorrow in Taylorsville and Harmony.
The group will also display pinwheel gardens in schools and public spaces that show 32 pinwheels marking the number of children killed by a parent or caregiver in 2024 and encourage residents to join Wear Blue Day on April 4.
📰 Economy
In 2024, Iredell farmers lost about $10 million from a dry season and low crop prices.
They are cutting back on costs today—delaying equipment purchases and reducing inputs—while experts warn that if dry weather holds, the 2025 growing season may face more challenges from high interest rates and potential tariffs.
🏛️ Government
Attorney General Jeff Jackson recommended that residents delete their 23andMe accounts and health data after the firm filed for bankruptcy, raising concerns that personal genetic information might be sold.
His office said it is watching the bankruptcy proceedings closely—residents are urged to act quickly.
