CRIME NEWS

  • Troutman police arrested 58-year-old Jerry Wright on a felony assault charge after a verbal dispute turned violent at the Cedar Stump Pub parking lot on March 29 at 11:20 p.m. when a man was stabbed; investigators also charged Mooresville resident Joshua Wright with simple affray and issued a warrant for Dustin Loftin.  Iredell Free News
  • Statesville police say a gas station employee was threatened with a gun during a robbery — investigators used the department's Verkada camera system to identify a black 2001 Honda Accord used by the two charged men.  Statesville Record & Landmark

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The N.C. Department of Transportation is finalizing a new State Transportation Improvement Program that outlines 10 years of road and highway projects in the region. The plan includes work on projects in Mooresville such as widening N.C. 150 and improving Williamson Road — public feedback is accepted until April 4 and state board revisions are scheduled for this summer.  Mooresville Citizen
  • Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey said the N.C. Department of Insurance settled with the North Carolina Rate Bureau to set mobile home insurance rate increases at 11% a year for MH-F policies and 8% a year for MH-C policies – saving over $10 million annually compared to the higher proposals. The new rates will take effect on new and renewed policies beginning September 1 – and a planned May 21 hearing was canceled.  Iredell Free News
