GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Town officials announced plans to update and strictly enforce downtown parking rules following a study that found problems with extended daytime and overnight parking in 881 spots — the study also helped shape planning for a new parking deck and a potential paid-parking program. At the same meeting, the board approved rezoning for a 65.3-acre residential project by Mattamy Homes, which will include 187 single-family homes and traffic improvements, and they named Jeff Mack to the Planning Board. - ➤ On Tuesday, the Iredell County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution in support of NC Senate Bill 248 to let local Register of Deeds offices issue certified copies of birth certificates for adopted persons. The board also approved measures including new shade structures for the county pool (opening May 24), a relief board appointment for the Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and a spending plan for the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.
