  • On Thursday, Careers on Wheels returned to the Iredell County Fairgrounds in Troutman where about 2,000 sixth-graders from Iredell-Statesville Schools and Mooresville Graded School District met more than 60 local businesses to explore career options under the Iredell Ready initiative—official 2025 events will continue in October.  Iredell Free News

  • Statesville native Sally Nix—who had five brain surgeries for a rare neurological disease—is urging lawmakers to pass the Care First Act after her insurance retroactively denied effective treatment. She attended a meeting in Raleigh on April 15 and said local representatives support the bill that would reform prior authorization—Nix plans to meet lawmakers until the bill advances.  Statesville Record & Landmark

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Venu Gangireddy of Piedmont HealthCare explained that colorectal cancer is the fourth most common type and 85% of cases are preventable with early screenings—colonoscopy detects polyps before they turn into cancer. He advised that people with average risk start screening at 45 and those with a family history should begin tests earlier—prompt screening may save lives.  Iredell Free News
