  • A Walkerton man was arrested Saturday night after his truck hit a car on I-77 near mile marker 62, killing Mooresville driver Jessica Lyndsay Horton, 47, and a passenger; officers said speeding and impairment caused the crash that closed the road for 10 hours while he now faces multiple felony charges.  Iredell Free News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a local school board meeting, Superintendent Jeff James honored board members Anita Kurn and Mike Kubiniec for earning NC School Boards Association certification training while finance staff Maggie Becker and Michelle Cassidy completed required courses. Student-athletes from local high schools earned state champion titles in cheerleading, swimming, wrestling, indoor track and women's basketball+ their achievements add to the district's focus on excellence+ in academics and sports.  Iredell Free News

  • Local state lawmakers visited the Iredell County Emergency Communications Center on Thursday to thank telecommunicators as part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week—Rep. Jeff McNeely and Sen. Vickie Sawyer toured the facility and expressed their gratitude for the staff’s hard work.
