At Thursday’s ceremony at Heritage House in Mooresville, United Way of Iredell County honored 16 community volunteers.

Michael Davidson received both the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award and the Medallion Award for his work with G4G Ministries and other groups + his selfless efforts have been widely praised.

About 600 people attended the second annual Charles Fest in northern Iredell County on Saturday, where founder Kevin Robertson praised the vendors and attendees as the festival featured 35 craft vendors, five food trucks, 20 antique tractors and family activities like an inflatable slide, bounce house and horse/carriage rides. He said he may plan a fall event and invited community members to share ideas for future festivals.

Iredell County seniors are exploring a job fair with many career options (one student said making a choice is nerve-racking) and are weighing their prospects carefully.

Rep. Todd Carver said the Assembly is busy after Easter break as many bills race to meet the May 8 deadline—HB 765 will speed local planning decisions while HB 636 will set up a board to review challenged school books.

Local groups are pushing for a balanced solution that supports both development and community control.

Casey Hoover was honored on Monday at Statesville City Hall for his extra courage after being shot on April 29, 2024 during a task force operation in Charlotte—he received the Purple Heart Award from the U.S. Marshals Service.

The Iredell County Register of Deeds Office will honor veterans and active-duty service members with a Military Appreciation Hot Dog Drive-Thru Lunch on May 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 211 Constitution Lane in Statesville—service members will receive a hot dog lunch with chips and a drink as part of Military Appreciation Month.
