CULTURE NEWS

  • The Iredell Arts Council will debut local artist Josh Dickens’ first solo exhibit, 'Dive Into The Abyss,' on May 7 at its venue on S. Meeting Street in Statesville. The opening reception runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m.—free entry with light refreshments and the artist in attendance.  Iredell Free News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oakwood Middle School hosted its Service as Action project showcase on Wednesday where students shared projects to help improve the community, with Janey Walker and Charlotte Templeton leading a project that raised awareness for clothing donations. Another group worked with younger students to improve their reading and math skills—both projects showed a clear effort to support local families.  Iredell Free News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Iredell Volunteer Fire Department hosted a live burn training on a donated property off Island Ford Road on Saturday so firefighters could practice handling realistic fire conditions. Personnel from Stony Point, Monticello, Catawba, Cool Springs and Central took turns extinguishing staged fires in different rooms+ eventually letting the house burn when it was no longer safe.  Iredell Free News
  • Lane Construction Corp. will close Round Keep Lane at Brawley School Road today for sewer work at the Windsor Woods subdivision entrance — drivers should seek alternate routes during the work.  Mooresville Tribune
  • NCDOT contract crews closed Round Keep Lane on Brawley School Road this morning for two weeks to do sewer work at the Windsor Woods subdivision entrance—this work is part of a $34.8 million project to widen 1.18 miles of road between Interstate 77 and U.S. 21.  WHKY

  • Iredell Memorial Hospital earned an A Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, showing its strong focus on patient safety — the rating is based on over 30 measures of errors and infections and marks the third consecutive season of high performance.  Iredell Free News
