- ➤ The N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program and law enforcement agencies are running a statewide campaign for the Move Over Law from May 12 to 18 that reminds drivers to move over or slow down when approaching emergency vehicles with flashing lights—violators may face a $250 fine and even charges if injuries or property damage occur. - ➤ The Iredell County Board of Commissioners unanimously opposed House Bill 765 at their May 6 meeting, saying the bill would weaken local planning and zoning that had shaped community growth. The board’s resolution warned that the legislation would strip away local control and expose board members to personal civil liability—prompting them to urge state lawmakers to reject it. Todd Carver (95th District) said that last week in the General Assembly, crossover week required bills to clear one chamber to remain active, and he is pushing his bill to rehire retired teachers now in finance committee.
