Dennis Cowardin was honored with the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award for 20 years of dedicated service in Mooresville and Iredell County, and the recognition marks his long-standing volunteer work in the community.

Town Manager Tracey Jerome dedicated a Fallen Officers Memorial at the Mooresville Police Department on Tuesday morning during National Police Week.

Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center unites law enforcement, social services, and medical professionals to help children report abuse and receive therapy.

The center—serving nearly 2,000 children over the past four years—boosts the local prosecution rate to 98 percent with one-time, child-friendly interviews.

At its May meeting, the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education honored school nurses, student winners from Odyssey of the Mind and FIRST Lego League robotics, and gifted teachers for their achievements across the district.

Troutman Elementary held the Fuel Your Body, Fuel Your Mind contest where families and students sampled creative healthy snacks and selected books on campus.

Yesterday, Mitchell Community College celebrated 61 Associate Degree Nursing graduates on the Statesville Campus as they received their nursing pins during the Holbrook-Huskins Nursing Pinning Ceremony at the Circle — several graduates also received academic and community awards.

Mooresville’s OsteoStrong center at 132 Joe Knox Ave. uses robotic devices to boost bone density and strength in 10-minute sessions.

Manager Margaret Matchen said the program, which includes free resistance bands throughout 2026, will celebrate its one-year anniversary in mid- to late-June.
