ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At 2:00 a.m. May 16, NC State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on I-77 north near US 21—where a Chevrolet Silverado collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, causing the truck to overturn and catch fire—killing 31-year-old Eric Anthony Pompa of Layton while the Florida resident tractor-trailer driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and the roadway remained closed for several hours. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education voted on Tuesday night to maintain the supplemental tax rate at 15.5 cents per $100 valuation and approved budget amendments adding $908,018 in state instructional services funds and $70,834 in system-wide support services, raising the 2024-2025 budget to $44,592,243.07 + authorizing $218,801.08 for new radio equipment to improve school safety. - ➤ Senate Bill 697 — sponsored by Sen. Vickie Sawyer and Sen. Ted Alexander — proposes changes to the Lake Norman Marine Commission, which is set to dissolve at the end of June after Lincoln County withdrew. The legislation will reduce the shoreline limit and add water quality oversight while expanding the board to nine commissioners, and it is now moving through the legislative process.
