Good morning, Mooresville.

Mooresville man Steven Andiloro, 53, was sentenced to 45 months in federal prison on Thursday for running a fraud scheme that took $6.1 million from investors and for getting $2.6 million in COVID relief funds — he must pay over $5.3 million in restitution while remaining free on bond until he goes to a federal facility.

On Thursday, 29 final graduates from Iredell-Statesville Schools Virtual Academy received their diplomas at Unity Center as the school marked the end of its program.

The academy will close at the end of this school year because budget cuts were approved by the board (teacher Candace Hilton highlighted the strong community built by the students).

On Thursday afternoon, 32 iAcademy graduates received their diplomas at the Career Academy and Technology School as officials and students highlighted the program’s mix of online and vocational training.

Leaders commended the unique educational approach and urged graduates to face future challenges with curiosity, courage — and compassion.

Mooresville officials proposed a budget that will keep property taxes the same while fee increases may add about $100 a year for residents.

Local leaders said careful planning is needed now—so future costs do not come as a rate shock.

Governor Josh Stein announced on May 23rd that Jessie Conley was appointed to the District Court for Judicial District 32 serving Alexander and Iredell Counties—she filled the vacancy after Bryan Corbett retired and formerly served as a judge in Judicial District 22.
