  • On Memorial Day morning, Vicki McNeely Brawley recalled feeling every emotion during NASCAR’s tribute event that honored her late Marine brother Lance Cpl. Tim McNeely—killed in the 1983 Beirut bombing—while she and other Gold Star Family members received special pre-race access. Driver Denny Hamlin led the field as his Joe Gibbs Racing car carried her brother’s name as part of the 600 Miles of Remembrance tribute.  Mooresville Citizen

  • Mooresville Police are seeking help finding 17-year-old Shakeya Jones after she left home and did not return—her father reported her missing and authorities describe her as 5-foot-2, 135 pounds with brown eyes, black hair, and scars on her neck, shoulder and lower back.  Iredell Free News

  • Students from Hough High and North Lincoln won top honors at the Blumey Awards for their spring musical productions—North Lincoln's 'Pippin' earned the Best Musical—Tier 2 award on May 18 while Hough High’s 'The Addams Family' garnered awards for Best Student Stage Manager, Best Student Set Designer, and Best Supporting Actor. The awards, presented by Charlotte’s Blumenthal Arts, recognize the talent of local high school theater students.  Mooresville Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department completed a live burn training on May 26 at a donated home off Mocksville Highway—firefighters led by Chief Andy Webster ran multiple fire scenarios until the building was unsafe.  Iredell Free News
  • Mooresville kept its tax rate unchanged at 48.36 cents per $100 valuation in a budget plan that Town Manager Tracey Jerome presented on May 19+ the $102.7 million general fund package includes hiring 24 new municipal staff and plans for fee hikes on water, sewer and stormwater services starting Jan. 1. The plan also offers future capital projects including a fire station project with property from Lowe’s and rezoning for a 78-townhome development, with a public hearing scheduled for June 2.  Mooresville Citizen
