  • Today, the Iredell Council on Aging received a $16,500 grant from the Meals on Wheels Loves Pets Regional Cohort Grant Program to support its Meals for Paws program that provides pet food and supplies to homebound seniors in Iredell County. The group will join a national webinar on June 24 (for training and technical assistance) to boost services and lessen social isolation.  Iredell Free News
  • Graduates of the Leadership Lake Norman program gave back to the Ada Jenkins Center on May 22 by staining picnic tables—pressure washing the gazebo and pulling weeds to clean the courtyard. The project was organized by the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce to support local community services—helping the nonprofit continue its work.  Mooresville Citizen

  • The Pilot travel center in Troutman has finished its remodel and now offers a fresh look with new Subway, Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts, self-checkouts, improved beverage coolers, remodeled showers, and laundry facilities + added comfort for travelers.   • Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators responded to a shooting on Wall Street near Statesville on Thursday and are now searching for three suspects (Chakrisis Ramseur, Noel Alexander, and Antonieo Clark) who face felony arrest warrants.  Iredell Free News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pharos Parenting will offer a free parenting class called Nailed It! with Love and Logic at 6—8 p.m. on Mondays from June 30 through September 15 at the United Way office on 404 N Main Street in Mooresville. The class will teach practical skills to help parents lower conflicts and boost responsibility in children over 4.  Iredell Free News
  • Pine Lake Preparatory held its graduation on May 23 at The Cove Church where 168 seniors were honored for earning nearly $8 million in scholarship offers and over 620 college acceptances from 47 states. Many graduates will attend colleges, trade schools, or start careers—one student will study in Italy and another will join West Point.  Mooresville Tribune

  • Bradford pear trees, once prized for their white blossoms, are now causing problems by spreading aggressively, breaking easily in storms, and giving off a bad odor—leading local groups to urge residents to remove them and plant native alternatives.
