- ➤ Construction begins on the new $130 million Iredell County high school as delays in finishing its athletic fields raise the cost from the planned $28 million to $35 million—adding an extra $7 million to the project. Statesville Record & Landmark
- ➤ Eight recent high school graduates received $1,000 scholarships during a May meeting at First Baptist Church of Statesville, including four from Mooresville High School (Sydney Gentry, Mackenzie Knowles, Sadie Intihar and Shania Adams) recognized for academic and writing achievements. The nonprofit celebrated its 10th year of awarding a total of $75,000 to graduates and will also grant qualifying past recipients a $500 stipend each fall (to help with tuition costs). - ➤ Pine Lake Prep’s SPORKlings competed at the FIRST LEGO League Western Edge International Open in Long Beach — 83 teams from over 100 countries took part — and earned a Champion Finalist Award as one of the top four teams while showcasing their innovation with the Mermaid Mover, a jetpack-equipped underwater chair that helps individuals with cerebral palsy scuba dive.
