Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 5th of June.
Good morning, Mooresville.
Mooresville resident Steve Odell bought 10 acres in Salisbury in 2019, planted tea trees at his house, and began East Bay Tea Company in 2023.
He plans a 10-year agritourism venture and a sustainable legacy using repurposed materials and volunteer help — a move that brings local farming and tea culture together.
County officials warned Mooresville residents about a scam email circulating today that asks for wire transfers as part of rezoning requests—official emails end in @iredellcountync.gov and fees are paid only in person.
Mooresville’s Art Academy of Southlake opened in March to offer beginner art training based on a three-part model of knowledge, guided practice, and personal commitment; the academy holds weekly classes including youth drawing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (5:15 to 6:15 p.m.) and painting sessions for preteens, teens and adults (Saturdays 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and additional evenings).
The Mooresville Graded School District Board approved fee changes for the 2025-2026 school year Tuesday that raised out-of-district tuition to $2,333.06, increased the marching band fee to $250, set the laptop fee at $20, and lowered wrap-around care fees for EC Pre-K from $375 to $180. They also approved a three-year i-Ready contract for grades K-9, renewed school nutrition bids, maintained current facility fees, updated local AIG and CTE plans, and honored Cindy Tyler with an Above and Beyond Award — steps that will guide the district’s future operations.
