- ➤ The national 2025 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by *Coker Tire* will make an overnight stop in Mooresville on June 28, with a car show on Broad Street starting at 5:10 p.m. as the race reaches the city at 5:25 p.m.—the event is organized by *Mooresville Downtown Commission*, which last hosted the race in 2021. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Over 30 middle and high school students attended a babysitting camp at Statesville High School last week to learn CPR, first aid and childcare skills with hands-on practice using an infant simulator doll. The Iredell-Statesville Schools Career Technical Education program hosted the camp — teachers instructed students in emergency care and resume building to prepare for babysitting work. - ➤ Mooresville Graded School District was selected—one of 24 nationwide—to join the Future of High School Network led by the Carnegie Foundation, which will help the district test new learning models and tools for measuring student progress. - ➤ Mooresville commissioners unanimously awarded a $1,596,280 contract to Beatty Construction LLC to design and permit a three-level downtown parking deck at 100 N. Church Street that will add 512 parking spaces and include retail space and a police annex. The board said the design will blend with the downtown area while meeting ADA rules and safety standards (with estimated construction costs of about $20 million). Iredell Free News
- ➤ Site clearing and road construction on the Timber Road extension are visible at the N.C. 115 intersection, creating a new east-west link to U.S. 21 via Deerwood Lane in Mooresville—part of a 119-acre project that includes plans for 300 apartments, 253 single-family homes and future commercial development. The $18 million project, which received a $15 million state grant, began in late 2024 and will be finished by the end of 2025. Mooresville Citizen
- ➤ Iredell County held its annual opioid settlement funds meeting during Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting to present program updates and invite public feedback. The meeting highlighted successes such as over 600 client interactions and 27 stable living placements and announced upcoming teen-focused mental health training—supporting local prevention efforts. - ➤ Attorney General Jeff Jackson filed a lawsuit in bankruptcy court today to stop 23andMe from selling North Carolinians’ genetic data—this action follows the company’s bankruptcy filing and a 2023 data breach that affected millions.
