- ➤ Children’s Homes of Iredell County in Statesville was awarded a $95,000 Lowe’s Hometowns grant to renovate a transitional living home — adding three bedrooms, a kitchenette and an extra bathroom — to help young adults aging out of foster care build independence. Iredell Free News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Statesville Kiwanis Club gave $2,000 scholarships to 10 Iredell County students during its June meeting from funds raised at the Agricultural Fair last fall — record attendance boosted the scholarships — and will award five more checks in July. Club leader Joe Stephens described the awards as the highlight of the year that support local college-bound students. Iredell Free News

- ➤ At a June meeting, the Drug-Alcohol Coalition of Iredell shared interviews showing 80 percent of teens got alcohol from home and 93 percent saw little harm in drinking—project coordinator Kristin Blumenstein noted that the coalition will hold further interviews with community partners and expand research to include tobacco, vaping, and drug use, with the next meeting set for August 18 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Agricultural Extension Center.
