Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 12th of July.
Good morning, Mooresville.
🎓 Education
In Iredell County, 1,288 private school students received $7.1 million in state vouchers for 2024-25—Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy in Mooresville got the highest funding at about $1.94 million.
The voucher funding surged 154% from the previous year after an income cap was removed.
📰 Finance
A state law change now requires teen drivers to pay an insurance surcharge until their mid-20s and raises minimum liability limits to $50,000 per person—causing higher premiums when policies renew.
Insurers will reduce the surcharge gradually for drivers with 4 to 8 years of experience if no violations occur, and new rules for underinsured motorist coverage and a five-year lookback period take effect.
🏛️ Government
Mooresville's I-77 will have lane closures starting Monday, July 14 as NCDOT contract crews begin work on a new bridge at the N.C.
150 interchange—traffic will shift to inside lanes during nightly closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The $249 million N.C. 150 widening project will first add eastbound lanes—then add westbound lanes and finish with a 160-foot-wide structure.
