  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas held its 21st annual Big Day at the Lake on July 19 at Duke Explorium where 75 matches and 225 people enjoyed a picnic indoors because of algae concerns on Lake Norman. Local restaurants and over 70 volunteers provided food and fun activities—helping keep the event a cherished local tradition.  Mooresville Citizen

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday at about 1:20 p.m.—firefighters from West Iredell and several other departments battled a heavy structure fire at a home on Alpine Circle that led to a collapsing roof and displaced three adults and one child while the Red Cross assisted—the Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.  Iredell Free News

CRIME NEWS

  • Mooresville Police arrested 20-year-old Julius Dwayne White from Charlotte on July 25 after his vehicle fled a traffic stop for registration violations on June 23 on I-77 in Cornelius—he faces charges for firearm possession by a convicted felon, evading arrest, involvement with a stolen vehicle, resisting a police officer, and traffic offenses, with a court hearing scheduled for August 14.  WHKY
  • A Mooresville pet groomer was charged with four counts of animal cruelty after online videos showed the employee repeatedly striking and mishandling dogs (sheriff’s office report).  Mooresville Tribune
  • Mooresville Police Department recovered two stolen vehicles after two pursuits on I-77 earlier this week—on one chase following an automated license plate alert, officers deflated tires and apprehended four suspects including juveniles, while a later pursuit for registration violations ended in a crash that led to the arrest of two Charlotte residents and the recovery of a firearm and tools.  Iredell Free News

  • This fall, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame will induct six notable North Carolinians, including country star Luke Combs (Huntersville) and producer Robert Deaton from Fayetteville, at an induction ceremony on Oct. 16 at the Mooresville Performing Arts Center. The event is open to the public with tickets starting at $50 and will feature live performances along with new exhibits of inductee memorabilia debuting at the museum in October.  Mooresville Citizen

  • Iredell Health Foundation awarded grants from the Grateful Patients and Families Fund to five projects aimed at enhancing patient care at Iredell Health System—these projects include a clothing closet for discharged patients, interactive health education tools, recreational therapy support, comfort baskets for grieving families, and ultrasound training for new internal medicine residents.  Iredell Free News
  • Volunteers at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital received new Duke Blue uniforms featuring the updated logo that shows the hospital’s commitment to compassionate service to patients, visitors, and community members—volunteers who also help support charitable organizations and special hospital projects.
