  • On Monday morning, Iredell County Partnership for Young Children held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Christian Mission facility in Mooresville to open a new center offering early learning resources and family support services. Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce President Kirk Ballard and local nonprofit partners attended the event — demonstrating strong community support for the initiative.  Iredell Free News

CRIME NEWS

  • Mooresville police are now investigating a series of assaults linked to a domestic violence case after callers reported that one man beat another with a handgun at KFC on East Plaza Drive—three local residents are involved.  Mooresville Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Crosby Scholars of Iredell County kicked off its 10th year on August 1 by hosting its first Freshman Academy for rising sixth-graders and freshmen from local public schools; the event included school tips and community service. An open house will be held on September 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Goodwill Career Center in Statesville for interested students and parents.  Iredell Free News
  • At Monday's meeting, the Iredell-Statesville Board of Education reviewed its nearly $3.9 million Title I plan for the 2025-2026 school year—an allocation that will fund 11.5 certified and 51.5 classified positions while designating East Iredell Middle School as Title I, bringing the total to 15 schools; the board will vote on the plan on August 11 at 6 p.m. in the Career Academy and Technical School meeting room in Troutman.  Iredell Free News

  • Keegan Bissell, a 13-year-old with type 1 diabetes from Statesville, traveled to Washington, D.C. in early July as part of Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress to urge lawmakers to renew the Special Diabetes Program & boost funding for diabetes research. She met with North Carolina representatives at a Congressional hearing to share her personal experience and encourage further support for a future cure.  Mooresville Tribune
  • Mooresville residents have opposed the planned data center on Earnhardt widow's land — a public hearing is set to gather community input.  Mooresville Tribune
  • Mooresville voters and other eligible residents must register by the deadlines—Aug 15 for elections on Sept 9, Sept 12 for elections on Oct 7, and Oct 10 for elections on Nov 4—to take part in upcoming municipal elections. Voters can register online with an NCDMV ID, in person, or by mail, and those who miss the regular deadlines may register during early voting if available.  Iredell Free News
