GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mooresville town officials scheduled a public hearing for September 15 to review a proposal for a data center complex at the Mooresville Technology Park on 400 acres owned by Teresa Earnhardt—officials said the move allows voters to weigh concerns and potential benefits before the municipal election. Residents and commissioners raised issues such as environmental impacts, utility demands and loss of rural character while noting the project could create jobs and boost tax revenue.  Mooresville Citizen
  • Mooresville Town Board of Commissioners voted on Monday to schedule a public hearing for a proposed massive data center that will be held on September 15. The project, a 1.5 million square foot development on over 400 acres at Mooresville Technology Park owned by Teresa Earnhardt, has raised strong community concerns—focusing on rapid growth, environmental impacts, and public health risks.  Iredell Free News
  • Mooresville crews began closing a section of East Center Avenue Monday for up to 120 days as part of a stormwater upgrade project that is replacing a failing culvert and enhancing the waterflow corridor between Church Street and Statesville Avenue. The project—financed by a $3.9 million LASII grant and $1.5 million American Rescue Plan funds—is set to complete by October 2026.  Mooresville Citizen
  • Eligible North Carolina voters—if they live within a municipality—must register before upcoming municipal elections to be eligible to vote. They can register online at DMV or by mail with applications received by 5 p.m. on Aug. 15 for Sept. 9 contests, 5 p.m. on Sept. 12 for Oct. 7 contests, and 5 p.m. on Oct. 10 for Nov. 4 contests.  WHKY
