  • Tamara Roach has been named the new executive director of Fifth Street Ministries by its board and will begin her role on August 11. She brings nearly two decades of nonprofit leadership experience and will spend her first 90 days focusing on listening to staff and community partners—actions that support the ministry's expanded services for those displaced after the Brookwood Inn closure.  Iredell Free News
  • Nonprofit Bags of Hope has launched its fifth annual back-to-school food drive — aiming to collect 28,000 pounds of food — to help about 750 students from over 30 schools in the region. Neighborhood ambassadors will distribute donation bags from August 14th to 17th and deliver them to the Cornelius warehouse on August 23rd between 9 a.m. and noon.  Mooresville Citizen
  • On Saturday, Aug. 23, over 100 jet skiers will ride from Cowan’s Ford to Lookout Shoals dams to support local causes during the DAM2DAM Charity Jet Ski Ride organized by the Sherrills Ford/Dry Pond Rotary Club and Foundation. Riders will check in at Beatties Ford Park and Lake Access between 7:30-8 a.m. — registration for t-shirts ends Aug. 11 — as the event marks its 14th year.  Mooresville Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During the summer, Iredell County 4-H youth competed at County Activity Day on May 5 and advanced to District Activity Day on June 17 at West Iredell High School, where Trinity, Vivian, Isolena, Cooper, and Raelynn earned top awards and Garrison presented in the noncompetitive Cloverbud category. Four youth moved on to the State 4-H Presentation Finals on July 21 in Raleigh, with Trinity earning Bronze and Isolena winning Silver as their presentations showcased strong public speaking skills.  Iredell Free News
  • Crosby Scholars of Iredell County named Jennifer Christian as its new executive director effective July 1, replacing longtime leader Suzanne Wegmiller—Christian, who has led student programs since 2021, will now expand the college access program as the nonprofit marks 10 years of service in Iredell County.  Mooresville Citizen
