Good morning, Mooresville. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 14th of August.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Iredell County native Blake Crouch will receive the 2025 Buzz Award at the Full Bloom Film Festival on September 12 at Mitchell Community College’s Shearer Hall. • Lake Norman Music School now opens a 3,400-square-foot facility on Fairfield Forest Drive provided by Jeff Shanklin’s family donation—this new space has 10 rooms for private lessons and group classes and will host a grand opening on Aug. 23 from 4–8 p.m. with live music, food trucks, and a bouncy house.  Mooresville Citizen
  • A TV series filmed in Mooresville became a hit after its July 21 debut on Netflix as viewers quickly watched all eight episodes. The murder mystery drama set in fictional Maple Brook, Texas, used local spots like downtown businesses and the Chamber of Commerce—where real sites stood in for police stations.  Mooresville Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Iredell County Public Library will launch Young Athletes in September to offer park play sessions on the first and third Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. for children ages 2 to 7, with the Mobile Library joining the events (partners include Special Olympics North Carolina, Iredell County Parks and Recreation, and Statesville Recreation and Parks).  Iredell Free News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mooresville is advancing several projects as crews widen NC150 from US21 to the far side of Lake Norman and extend Timber Road from NC115 to US21—scheduling with state DOT and Norfolk Southern Railway may delay new railroad crossings. Town officials are renovating Moor Park into a ballpark set for completion next summer and developing new retail spaces and an upgraded intersection at NC150 and Wiggins Road—changes that are reshaping the local landscape.  Mooresville Citizen
  • City leaders in Mooresville opposed the rezoning request for a proposed data center on 400 acres of land owned by Teresa Earnhardt—so officials withdrew the plan.  Mooresville Tribune
  • The town board changed the proposed rules on August 4 for a cat café in downtown Mooresville that would have been approved by right, and now the project must get a special permit with a public hearing and extra steps. The business owners said the change—meant to give neighbors a say—will raise costs and delay the project, so they may look for a new site if approval is not reached soon.  Mooresville Citizen
