  • Late July at Mooresville Golf Club, the second annual Birdies and Brews Golf Tournament raised $10,000 for Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County's free Rainbow Kidz grief counseling program—organizers said participants wore hula skirts for an on-course advantage. Sponsors including Fresh and Ready Food Group and On Tap representatives were honored at a post-tournament event in downtown Mooresville.  Mooresville Citizen
  • Rick Howard, a 72-year-old developer and committed community leader, died peacefully on August 15 in Mooresville—his work transformed local business, education, and public service. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 23 from 6-8 p.m.—funeral services will follow on August 24 at Fairview United Methodist Church.  Mooresville Citizen

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Stein signed Executive Order 21 on Tuesday, continuing the Office of Violence Prevention & creating a Gang Prevention and Intervention Task Force that will work with law enforcement, health officials, and community groups to reduce gang violence.  Iredell Free News
  • Statesville Council on Monday approved a plan to let agencies submit proposals for using more than $1 million in unspent affordable housing funds and revised a policy linking city property sale proceeds to the HOME fund, although some members opposed a six-month timeline. The Council also reviewed a proposal to donate Abernathy Park to Power Cross Ministries + approved a $20,541 economic incentive grant to Sheets Laundry Club that will create up to 15 jobs and benefit the Mooresville area.  Iredell Free News

  • Lincoln Charter’s first varsity football team will take the field led by coach Mike Byus, who built the program over two years with a strong JV season that ended 6–2—many players will work both ways as they face tougher varsity opponents, with their first game set tomorrow at Highland Tech.  Mooresville Citizen
