- ➤ At the Iredell County Animal Shelter, volunteer coordinator Tracy Sanchez said the Books and Buddies program invites children to read to dogs and cats to boost reading skills and help calm the animals — the initiative began in 2021 and opened to the public in 2022. Many young participants return as volunteers alongside families at themed events that the shelter will host year‐round — the program continues to strengthen community ties. Mooresville Citizen

- ➤ Iredell Arts Council is accepting applications for NC Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program subgrants until September 30, with projects scheduled July 1 — June 30. Local non-profit arts organizations will be reviewed by a community panel as awards are announced in October. Iredell Free News
- ➤ Mooresville Arts at The Depot hosts Collective Voice: Paint, Clay & Light, a juried exhibit featuring 101 works by eight selected local and regional artists—some pieces have already been reserved by buyers. The show opened on Aug. 19 with an artists’ reception on Aug. 22 and will run until Sept. 25 with free admission, though donations are welcome. Mooresville Citizen

- ➤ A Pine Lake Preparatory fifth grader, Zadie Blázquez-Straub, won a trip to Yellowstone National Park after her essay on what America means was chosen from many entries in America’s Field Trip.
