The Mooresville Downtown Commission earned the National Accredited Main Street America designation for the fourth year after a careful review by local leaders and the NC Main Street Program.

The achievement boosts downtown Mooresville’s growth with new businesses, jobs, and millions in investments — proof of strong local progress.

Firefighters from Shepherds, Mooresville, Mount Mourne, Troutman, Lake Norman, Denver — Sherrills Ford responded after a controlled burn from a fire pit spread near Whippoorwill Road on Wednesday at 11:09 a.m., destroying an outbuilding and damaging adjoining property with no injuries reported.

The NC Department of Public Instruction released Iredell-Statesville Schools report cards showing 4 F's, 4 A's, 9 B's and 11 C's with 19 out of 35 schools improving scores—Superintendent Jeff James said teachers and administrators should be proud despite low funding.

The report measures academic proficiency and growth while highlighting changes in math scores, graduation rates and testing participation.

Iredell-Statesville Schools report cards show that 19 of 35 schools improved from last year with four schools earning an F and overall results of four A's, nine B's, and 11 C's as graduation rates and math scores improved while science scores fell.

Superintendent Jeff James said the letter grades measure only academic proficiency and growth—additional parent feedback also guides how schools serve students.
