CRIME NEWS

  • Douglas Paul Mashburn, a 55-year-old man from Eastridge Lane, was arrested by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for a residential break-in and larceny near the 100 block of East Barkley Road on August 30—investigators found burglary tools and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle during a traffic stop.  Iredell Free News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Iredell County Economic Development Corporation met Tuesday with over 350 leaders and reported that the county now ranks among North Carolina's top 10 most prosperous counties with a 10% rise in population, a 26% boost in labor force, and average wages up to $62,669. Iredell EDC also announced 126 new and expanding projects—totaling $2.2 billion in investments and creating 6,000 new jobs—and said a full economic report from its Business Pulse Survey will be released this fall.  Mooresville Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Tuesday’s Mooresville Graded School District meeting, the board approved a clean 2024-2025 audit that showed revenues of $83,333,431 and expenditures of $82,020,056, raising the fund balance from $23.4 million to over $24.3 million with a surplus of $1,313,375—this reflects careful budgeting after federal ESSER funds ended. The board also reviewed 72 school bus stop-arm violations since school began, updated policies and out-of-state field trips, and honored student and staff achievements.  Iredell Free News

  • Piedmont HealthCare Lake Norman OB/GYN welcomed Dr. Benjamin Hinkel from Ohio; he earned his degree at the University of Toledo and completed his training at Riverside Methodist Hospital plus he is now accepting new patients to offer care in high-risk obstetrics, minimally invasive surgery, and women's health.
