  • Mooresville will host the Motorsports Celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 30, with local partners highlighting the town's deep racing roots. Two NASCAR legends, Greg Biffle and Ryan Newman, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony starting at 5 p.m.  Mooresville Citizen
  • Reservations are required at Carrigan Farms for pumpkin picking in October—offering u-pick pumpkins, hayrides, a petting zoo and apple-cider donuts. Other local farms provide additional fall events with corn mazes, wagon rides and animal encounters for families.  Mooresville Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mitchell Community College announced its Basic Law Enforcement Training program will begin its largest-ever cohort of women this fall—14 enrolled, including Jessica Thompson as the first female class leader who will help drive diversity in policing.  Iredell Free News
  • Iredell-Statesville Schools officials and the Statesville City Council met Tuesday to improve communication on school capacity and construction projects—officials shared that Cloverleaf Elementary is at 95 percent capacity and Troutman Elementary at 120 percent while outlining updates at Statesville High and plans for a new field house with an estimated cost of $4–6 million. The meeting also addressed concerns about enrollment gaps, stressing early interventions for children in low-income households.  Iredell Free News
  • Local artist Dennis Huntley visited Cloverleaf Elementary School on Wednesday morning with therapy dog Dixie Lynn to cheer up second graders in Kristine Mifsud’s class—students hugged the dog and received a donated painting. The event was organized by teacher Karissa Miller and principal Jennifer Dalton to bring joy to the school.  Iredell Free News

  • The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Liberty Park in Mooresville on Saturday, Sept. 27 to raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. — walkers will mark the event with a Promise Garden ceremony using pinwheel flowers.  Mooresville Citizen
