CULTURE NEWS

  • Local business owners have built a monthly Entertainment District Night event in downtown Mooresville that will start on Saturday, Sept. 20. Eight venues will host live music and activities from 6 p.m. to midnight — including performances by The Groove Skeletons at 158 on Main — to draw more visitors downtown.  Mooresville Citizen

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Iredell-Statesville Schools has named Jerrica Scott as principal of Troutman Middle School starting today—she was an assistant principal in Winston-Salem—and Derrick Wishon as principal of North Iredell High School beginning September 22—he has worked as a teacher and administrator in the district.  Iredell Free News
  • Iredell-Statesville Schools board honored the district’s teachers of the year at its September meeting, praising their excellence and commitment to student success. Executive Director of Human Resources Jill Parker said the board also recognized a beginning teacher and a principal of the year — highlighting outstanding local educators — as the district continues to support quality education.  Iredell Free News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brittany Snyder was named the director of Iredell County Veteran Services—she will oversee benefits coordination, advocacy, and outreach for over 15,000 veterans and military families. Snyder brings relevant experience from her U.S. Navy service and previous work as grants coordinator at the county while she prepares to complete her master’s degree in public administration in October.  Iredell Free News
  • On Monday, West Iredell Volunteer Fire Department held a live burn training at a donated home so firefighters could practice real fire scenarios—Troutman, Monticello and Stony Point crews joined under Chief Jerry Houston’s command.  Iredell Free News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Mooresville Town Board approved the Courtyard at Brumley Farms development, a plan for 108 single-family homes on nearly 55 acres at 1304 Oakridge Farm Highway—with a realignment of Highway 150/152 and a signalized left turn before occupancy. Local concerns were raised over road safety and the impact on small business, and the project includes measures to protect community interests.  Iredell Free News
