  • EnergyUnited Board Director Zolee Riggs earned the Board Leadership Certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association—she completed ten advanced courses in risk oversight, board meeting procedures, and decision making to strengthen EnergyUnited's governance.  Iredell Free News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mooresville Arts will host the 2025 Arts on Main event, a three-day art celebration in downtown Mooresville from November 20 to 22. The event will feature a 'First Look' exhibit on November 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.—with a travel show by the American Watercolor Society and live painting with music—and a free gallery crawl on November 21 along with an indoor fine arts festival with 70 artists on November 22 at the Charles Mack Citizen Center.  Iredell Free News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On October 3, Governor Josh Stein signed Iryna’s Law, which ends cashless bail and tightens rules for violent repeat offenders and pretrial release. The law also requires mental health checks and speeds up death penalty appeal hearings—measures tied to the case of Iryna Zarutska, whose murder on a Charlotte train led to the reforms.  WHKY

  • On October 3rd, high school football scores were reported from several conferences—East Rutherford scored 57 in the Western Piedmont Conference while teams like Hibriten and Bandys posted their results in a day of varied performances.  WHKY
  • Nominations for the Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026 are being accepted and must be submitted by March 1 at midnight—forms are available online or by mail to Iredell-Statesville Schools, and candidates must show three years of residency or sports contribution. The induction ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on May 18 at the Statesville Civic Center, where outstanding senior athletes will also be honored.  Iredell Free News
