COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The state returned $12,000 in missing funds to Iredell County's nonprofit food pantry, and Lambert (a longtime volunteer turned president) said he never knew the money was owed.  Statesville Record & Landmark
  • Mooresville officials and guests cut the ribbon on completed upgrades at Cornelius Road Park last week— the $9 million renovations added artificial turf fields, LED lighting on sports and baseball fields, a new restroom, picnic area, food truck station, expanded parking, improved access roads and enhanced stormwater management. Town leaders say the upgrades now offer more space for local recreation and attract traveling sports programs.  Mooresville Citizen
  • Mooresville first responders will enjoy a catered barbecue luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct 27 at Mooresville Ford on East Plaza Drive—local sponsors and the chamber honor over 300 police, fire and EMS personnel with this event that may become an annual tradition. The chamber is planning to include more first responders from south Iredell County in the future.  Mooresville Citizen

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On October 22, EnergyUnited was named a Top Workplace award winner by Charlotte Magazine—this electric co-op serves 19 west-central counties including five near Hickory. It is the third year in a row that employee surveys have shown strong support and growth among its 260 staff.  WHKY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Catawba Riverkeeper is seeking a new executive director to continue the progress made by John and his team—applications are now being reviewed to find a leader who will boost efforts to protect the river.  Mooresville Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • East Lincoln senior Karsyn Sink won the 5A West singles regional championship and his team swept the singles bracket while Pine Lake Prep saw Mallory Aull beat her teammate in the final. Other local players—like Devin Gilroy and Ava Cochran—advanced as dual-team playoffs continue and state tournaments will take place Oct. 24–25.  Mooresville Citizen
