- ➤ A controlled burn gone wrong started a brushfire that burned over two acres on the Barium Springs property Monday as teams from Troutman Fire & Rescue, the N.C. Forestry Service, and the Monticello Volunteer Fire Department used heavy equipment to cut down burning trees and fight the flames until the fire was controlled by 11:38 a.m. Iredell Free News

- ➤ Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center and the N.C. Falconers Guild hosted their 7th annual World Falconry Day on Sunday—visitors enjoyed raptor flight demonstrations, hands-on falconry exhibits, and interactive owl programs with support from local partners. Iredell Free News

- ➤ Iredell Health System’s Skilled Nursing Facility was named a Best Nursing Home for 2026 by U.S. News & World Report — it earned a High Performance designation for short-term rehabilitation after nearly 15,000 facilities were evaluated.
