  • The Rotary Club of Statesville/Fourth Creek donated $25,000 to open a Family Resource Center at The Birth Place in Iredell Memorial Hospital on June 6— the new space offers child-friendly seating, many charging outlets, a TV, a coffee and snack bar, and a baby changing room. Iredell Health Foundation said the center gives families comfort and help during important moments.  Iredell Free News
  • At the June meeting, Pam Navey of the Iredell Homeless Collaborative explained that the group and its local partners will host summer events for the homeless and those in transitional situations, including feeding programs for children, youth camps, and community fun days. Local agencies are also gearing up to manage shelter transitions and address challenges from heavy rains and the closure of Brookwood Inn — efforts that aim to support families as they move to stable housing.  Iredell Free News

  • Labor Commissioner Luke Farley and the N.C. Department of Labor launch the Beat the Heat campaign to remind employers and workers to take breaks, drink water, and seek shade to prevent heat illness. The campaign offers free tools—such as a heat safety calculator and a real-time heat index app—for those working outdoors.  Iredell Free News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Camp Rainbow offered a two-week session for 100 children—60 of whom were grieving a loss—to learn healthy coping skills through activities like yoga, equine therapy, and musical events. Volunteers and special guests helped the free camp, run by the Rainbow Kidz Pediatric Grief Counseling Program, provide a safe space for children to share their memories and feelings.  Iredell Free News
