Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 12th of August.
Good morning, Mooresville.
🏘️ Community
Fifth Street Ministries is coordinating a community response for about 60 family units displaced by the Brookwood Inn closure in partnership with the Iredell Homeless Coalition and other local groups.
The United Way Endowment has provided a $15,000 matching grant — and response coordinator Pam Navey is leading the effort — to offer immediate housing support and essential services.
🏛️ Government
Mooresville maintained a AAA issuer rating from Moody’s and AA+ ratings from Standard & Poor’s on its Limited Obligation Bonds—reflecting strong fiscal management and a growing tax base.
Town Manager Tracey Jerome said the ratings follow a 32% tax base increase after the 2024 revaluation and robust construction activity.
Iredell County is recruiting for many government positions in parks and recreation, emergency services, and social services with several openings offering a $2,500 sign-on bonus — applications are open until filled with some roles closing as early as Aug 12th and Aug 14th.
Mooresville mayor and a city commissioner said they will likely vote no on the proposed data center without more details—specifically which company will be the final user.
They will decide once further information is provided.
